I have been collecting NOS(NEW OLD STOCK) parts for years and have quite a collection. Unfortunately they are not inventoried or organized.

Anytime I tease my wife about her craft table in the basement she brings up my mess. I dont know what I have on hand. The parts I sell are NEW OLD STOCK. The boxes or packages are not perfect. The gaskets and seals may show some age and have to be replaced or backed up with a sealer.

There may be some surface rust on the part and I will list it if its worse than that. Some mechanical parts such as valves or couplers may be sticky but easily loosened with pen oil. If the application is incorrect or the part has some sneaky damage I missed please be understanding.

Historically my parts sell for far less than retail price. The item “New Holland Baler Knotter Cam 2000 505 515 575 580 585 BB900 800 D100″ is in sale since Friday, June 10, 2016. Did anyone here run one in their heyday? A mate who's father ran one had nothing but trouble from new, he said they go out of timing when you break a shearbolt, bale the needles and miss tie all the time. An idiot locally bought one for £4k, and proudly proclaimed he would conquer the North Wales baling scene with his trusty used baler, undercutting everyone else, to which my pal's old man said 'He'll never get fat on a D1000' It worked ok with someone tripping the knotters, but baled the needles and was sold due to no funds for a repair. The bales are not really for silage some say, my question being, why were they so unreliable????? Can't really answer your question either!

My mate has ran one for years on straw and hay and as far as I know has never had major issues with it. It was bought second hand on the strength of his experiences from using one with a baling contractor. I've used it plenty of times myself since I've known him (11 years +) and have to say I've never had major problems, it does fail to tie the occasional outside knot (I'd probably be surprised if it didn't happen at least once a field) and the very very odd shearbolt goes but thats about it! Certainly, when the bolt goes I've never had to do anything more than replace it and crack on. Saying that it is well taken care of, any occasion to stop (eg miss-tie, replace twine, shearbolt etc) and any noticeable build up of chaff is knocked away, particularly from the knotters, only takes a min or two and while you're up there give the autolube plunger a pull.

Likewise if you have to open up a side for whatever reason you might knock the chaff off the chains and remove any straw/hay build up. At the end of the day knock all chaff off and remove all build up then run the PTO on tickover and use a fairy liquid bottle to apply oil to all the chains.

And pull the autolube plunger! Seems a pretty hardy baler though, I know when my mate was contracting he once forgot to lower the tailgate before starting and the first he knew of it was the bang as the bolts holding it on snapped.

Apparently he just chucked it on top of the baler and finished the field then once he got back to base ran the tractor over it a few times to straighten her out and replaced the bolts! There are plenty of stories about all models of baler going bang, along with just about every other bit of agricultural kit. I have got 2 D1000 balers. They are not really suitable for silage, but fine on haylage, hay and straw. I have never had a timing problem after breaking a shearbolt.

Like any machinery, if you look after them they go fine. I would say that if the gearbox ended up in the bale chamber then that was indicative of some serious neglect in the maintenance department! In the right conditions they are still good balers. I had three D1000 balers at one time, two yellow and one red.

The first was a 1988 model, it baled about 160,000 bales before we scrapped it due to it wearing out the splines on the main plunger drive for the second time. I still have the red one here, although it aint been used for eight years or so now. They were a good baler for us in their day, a bit slow now, but made a very good bale for the end user.

The flakes of a D1000 bale are the only ones I've seen that don't fall apart upon handling. What I mean is you can carry the flakes between your finger tips and arm pits across a yard in a similar way to using small conventional bales.

They were very popular for out door pig units as the flakes were ideal for bedding up the arks. I reckon the shear bolt timing you speak of, is the feeder on the left hand side. When this failed it was possible to replace the bolt 180 degrees out and mess up the timing, but once you knew how to go on it was never a problem. It's fair to say there were tying issues compared to modern balers, I reckon this was partly due to there being no slack on the twines upon tying. This could in some crops cause knots hanging on bill hooks etc. I remember one day going out and baling 1200 bales in the day with my original machine, at £2.00 per bale at the time. Not a bad days work for an unreliable old D1000!

Compared to the Krone 80-80 Big Pack baler we once had, the old D1000s were far better. But that's another story!
