Belt kits are $17. He does repairs also, but the transport to and from may be an issue for you. I got on in there, and found no backtension adjustment - This is a far simpler mech than the '366, and a few years older besides. What backtension there is in playback/rec seems to be largely determined by the counter belt and counter. All academic anyway, as playing about in that area did not improve matters.

Even manually placing drag on the supply spool didn't help. However, I was able to get better access to the tape path. I thoroughly cleaned the RH tape guide (as tape leaves the rec/pb head), there was some dirt there. I also made a small adjustment to the pressure pad assembly where the pinch roller bracket meets it just to give a bit more clearance. Whatever, it has solved the problem. Lovely clear recordings on both channels again!

I am lucky in that the heads in this thing are practically new. Just be warned, the tape path in these has to be spotless. The small amount of dirt on that guide was obviously causing some kind of tenting effect. When I first got it I had to strip and clean various linkages around the main function selector, idler brackets, brakes etc. There was one elbow joint on, I think, the take up idler (pic1) which was rooted solid with old grease, and the thing was riveted and not possible to disassemble.
That took time to degrease. I did that without a service manual and taking lots of photos! It was quite involved but not too bad. The rubber parts were all fine, lucky otherwise I probably would not have bothered with it.

Tc 270 Transfer Case
So, if you're fairly used to this kind of work it is worth going for a TC270. But it is not for the uninitiated as there's a lot of disassembly to be done. As can be seen in pic 3, the whole headbridge, capstan flywheel etc. Has to come out.
