I'm in the final stages of a CNC retrofit on a ca. 1990 Mori Seiki MH-40. Most of the PLC ladder has been simple enough, but I have not been able to make the pallet changer clamp/unclamp mechanism respond as expected. This may be because I don't really know what to expect: there was no opportunity to see the pallet changer operate, or verify that it would operate, with the original control in place. The machine has a two-pallet rotary system, very much like the one shown here: (there is a pallet change at about 2:10). The original PLC wiring had only two outputs that seemed to apply to the clamp/unclamp system: one to activate solenoid SB232, described as 'Coupling Up' or 'TBUP'; and one to simultaneously activate solenoids SB327, SB328 and SB329, collectively described as 'APC Charge Tank Oil On'.

Separately, there are relays controlling a frequency drive to run the pallet changer motor forward and reverse. SB232 ('Coupling Up') appears to function also to unlock the B axis for rotary indexing. That function appears to be working properly: if I power SB232 alone, I can move the B axis.

If I turn SB232 off and power SA232 (the other side of the solenoid, 'Coupling Down') then the B cannot move. What I cannot decipher is exactly what they are doing with the oil/air charge tank, pressure multiplier, and SB327. It would appear from the diagram that, with SB327 off, the check valve allow oil (at air pressure) to flow into the high-pressure circuit (perhaps recharging the pressure multiplier for the next coupling-up cycle). But what would be achieved by activating SB327, allowing oil from the high-pressure circuit back to the oil/air tank as well as to the manifold for SB328 and SB329? In any event, when I apply air pressure and power SB327 (and SB328 and SB329), with or without SB232, I get no pressure indication on either of the gages on the manifold, and the switch at the end (PS10) never closes.

If anyone out there knows Mori pallet changers, or oil/air system principals, some pointers would be much appreciated.
