Lightning Steel Manual

  1. Lightning Steel Manual

Fly bridges have extensive stainless steel tuna tower structures, with trawler. More than a 1,000 people are killed worldwide annually by lightning strikes.

I bought this reloading pamphlet from Precision Reloading due to it's statement that it would allow me to load steel shot without buffers, cards or discs. All of my guns are newer with chromed barrels. I mention this as I've been led to believe that often the reason such components are used is to spare the lining on older barrels. I generally reload 12 Ga. Federal Top Gun hulls with ClayBuster Windjammer wads; International Clays powder, Winchester primers and 6(for pheasant) or 7.5(for trap) lead shot.

I have been told that I could use the same formula to load 00 buckshot as long as I weigh the 00 to ensure that it is the same weight as my target loads( but that is secondary to my main query in this post). What I would like to know is if it really is possible to use the formulas put forth in this pamphlet to load steel shot for waterfowl hunting w/o items like buffers using my hulls and whatever appropriate associated components the recipe dictates? I use a MEC Sizemaster if that is of any relevance to this matter.

What say you fellas? It's not safe to load buckshot with the same data as lead shot. They're different animals entirely. Buffer helps tighten the pattern of loads. If the pamphlet gives load data then I see no reason not to use it. You'll need a steel bar for your reloader so you get the proper shot drop. Lastly, not sure what powder you'll be using, but steel shot appropriate powders are notorios for wide variances in the powder drop.

Most I know weigh ny hand. So use your scale a LOT!!!! Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity. I'm learning you NEVER want to argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. You should never wrestle with a pig. You'll get dirty and he will enjoy it.

Don't bother with a steel bar when using the Lightning Steel manual. Weigh each charge, it is the only way to guarantee a consistent velocity between the rounds.

A Steelmaster charge bar will get you close, but you can have wildly varying velocities between loads, due to the fact they are pushing the upper end of the velocity range to begin with and the light steel charges used. I have never used a buffer, card, mylar or other item with any of the LS loads. Follow the rec and you will be fine. There a few rec's in LS2 for fed paper base wad hulls. These are pitch loads. So load once and chunk them. The reason for this is the base wad after the first reloading could come loose and get stuck in the barrel.

If you fire the next shot you could blow up your gun, hands, or face. Use the components they call for. And you will be fine.

You can also use any size steel shot you choose. Thou some rec's recommend the load is good with say #6 thru B shot. Others may say good with BBB thru TT.

This just means they perform best with these shot sizes. But, they will work with any size.

I'm new to reloading but not at all new to duck hunting. Picked up a Mec 600 jr. I'd like to make some fast fast steel and found the Lightning Steel manual at Precision Reloading. I already have plenty of AA hulls, but no other steel components. I plan to order the book, but what else should I put in the order.

Obviously steel wads, the website suggests B&P wads which I'll order. Is there a particular 2 3/4' hull that performs better than others (STS, Federal, etc)? Should I order both weights (7/8 and 1 oz) wads or just one. Is there a particular shot size that performs best?

Reloading

I planned on getting 10 lbs of steel 3 or 2 with the order. Also, is there a particular primer that goes with most loads in the manual? I have plenty of Rem and Win primers, but no others. If you want speeds over 1700 fps you will need the 7/8oz loads/wads. I would order some 1oz as well there is no doubt you will want to play and the only thing that will prevent that are the wads.

Win primers will do for many loads but not all. Some Fed 209A would be good and some Cheditte primers too if you intend to use Kent or Cheditte hulls would be of benefit.

All loads use Aliant STEEL powder. The above items will cover 80% of the loads providing you have the hulls and the hulls should be very easy to get for most loads, so not a real issue.

Go hard, Rob MacK. Paulinkansas wrote:I'm new to reloading but not at all new to duck hunting. Picked up a Mec 600 jr. I'd like to make some fast fast steel and found the Lightning Steel manual at Precision Reloading.

Go hard, Rob MacK I should have mentioned that my comments were about the LS2 manual only. +1 on cannon's comments, he is exactly right.
